If you fly into the main airport in San Jose (Juan Santamaria International Airport, code – SJO) you will most likely find lower priced flights.
However, Nosara is about a four-to-five hour drive from the San Jose Airport, depending on traffic and how many trucks and busses you get stuck behind on the two-lane roads.
If you fly into Liberia (Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, code – LIR) the flights are typically more expensive, but from Liberia you are closer to Nosara, roughly a two-hour drive.
The other option for getting to Nosara from San Jose or Liberia is either by rental car or a hired driver, shuttle or taxi.
Prices from San Jose range from $200 – $250 for a one-way trip; from Liberia it is roughly $100 – $150 one-way, depending on the time of year.
If you are arriving at night, and you don’t want to spend the night in Liberia or San Jose, we highly recommend using a shuttle service, because they know the roads well–driving at night and on the dirt roads can be dangerous. If you decide to rent a car and drive here, please view our driving directions from Liberia and/or San Jose.
